For many families in the industrialized world, pregnancy and the birth of a new baby are occasions for celebration. But in developing countries they can also be times of anxiety over the survival of both the mother and the new baby. The average lifetime risk of a woman in one of the least developed countries dying from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth is more than 300 times greater than that of a woman living in an industrialized country. This difference in risk of maternal death between the industrialized world and many developing counties has been called the greatest health divide in the world.

TAKE ACTION
Educate yourself about Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT), and share what you have learned with your club, community, family and school. Invite bands from other schools in your community and host a “Battle of the Bands” in your school gym with ticket proceeds benefiting the ELIMINATE Project. Have informational flyers and posters on MNT and have an opening and closing speech letting people know why it’s so important that they are there.
Another idea is to buy a gift that will give back! Buy from UNICEF Cards and Gifts and celebrate this Mother’s Day by helping children all around the world. Great gift ideas from handcrafted jewelry to stationery, every UNICEF card and gift you buy helps children around the world.
