Horn of Africa Famine Emergency Response Team
|
The drought in the Horn of Africa is the worst in 60 years.UNICEF estimates that a total of 10 million people are already in need of humanitarian assistance. UNICEF has called the situation across the Horn of Africa the "most severe humanitarian emergency in the world," with Somalia being the epicenter of the crisis. High food prices, prolonged drought, and conflict in Somalia are worsening an already dire situation. The number of refugees is growing. About 10,000 people arrive every week to the Dadaab refugee camp on the border between Kenya and Somalia, having walked for days to get there. UNICEF is one of the largest providers in the region of nutrition, such as a ready-to-eat peanut-based paste and therapeutic milk. The preventable death of one child is unacceptable. The survival of two million children at risk in the Horn of Africa from lack of nutrition is indefensible. Join the U.S. Fund for UNICEF's Horn of Africa Famine Emergency Response Team today to help raise emergency relief funds.
