© epa/Corbis | Dear Friend,
Cyclone Nargis slammed into Myanmar over the weekend, killing thousands and leaving an estimated 100,000 homeless. Children are most vulnerable in times of disaster and will require lifesaving support to survive.
Immediate needs include water purification tablets, plastic sheeting, cooking sets, bed nets, emergency health kits and food.
UNICEF's Myanmar office has already delivered essential supplies—including first aid kits and oral rehydration salts—to the hard-hit Laputta township, and teams are being deployed to Yangon and Irrawaddy today.
With staff on the ground in Myanmar since 1950, UNICEF was ready to move into action immediately to save kids' lives. Your support today will allow us to continue immediate relief efforts for the children of Myanmar and address their ongoing needs in the aftermath of this disaster.
Thank you for your commitment to the world's children and for letting us call upon you in emergencies that require additional support. We are grateful for your dedication to our mission.
Sincerely,
UNICEF USA
